How Feeling Stuck Can be Mistaken for Being Comfortable. My Real Life Lessons Inside!

When clients tell me, “I feel stuck,” I rarely jump in to fix it.
Instead, I listen. Because rarely is what they’re describing a plateau.

Believe it or not, it’s comfort.

I know……. you weren’t expecting that.

But the truth is, after coaching hundreds of people in my career, I’ve been able to spot the differences.

People always settle into a rhythm — familiar workouts, familiar routines — and assume that staying consistent means consistent results.

But here’s the truth:
Consistency without challenge can become stagnation.

And this isn’t just about the gym.
It’s in life, too.

Life yields change, and new challenges are always presented, so while being consistent is an excellent strength, as a coach, I am wired to seek out discomfort because discomfort is what yields growth.

Your Body (and Your Brain) Are Built to Adapt

In fitness, your body adapts faster than your mind does.
Do the same weights, the same reps, the same workouts for too long — and your body will eventually stop responding. It gets efficient. It coasts.

If you’ve been reading my newsletters for some time, then you’ve heard of “progressive overload".”

Progressive overload is the principle of doing just a little more than you did last time —

Enough to demand change, not destroy you.

In the gym, that might mean:

  • Adding 5 lbs when you could stay the same.

  • Squeezing out one more rep.

  • Slowing down a lift until it really burns.

In life, that might mean:

  • Saying no when you usually say yes.

  • Having the conversation you’ve been avoiding.

  • Asking for help.

  • Finally starting the thing you’ve been “planning” for months.

None of it feels convenient.
But all of it creates progress.

If you need a real progressive overload program — one that doesn’t just keep you busy, but forces you to get stronger — come work with me inside the PSQ App. This is what we do. You get 7 days free, by the way!

In my humble experience, growth happens when we step out of autopilot and into a little discomfort — on purpose.

And this idea doesn’t just live in the gym. Why I love fitness so much is because of how reflective it is to life too.

The same principle — doing a little more, leaning into intentional discomfort — has shown up in every area of my life.

One of the clearest examples?
Buying our current home.

When you keep the same patterns, thoughts, or relationships, your mind adjusts to just enough. You stop growing — not because you’re failing, but because you’ve outgrown what used to stretch you.

If things feel too easy, that’s not a signal to quit — it’s a signal to level up.

When Evan and I bought our current home, I remember feeling completely torn.

Our dream home had somehow landed in our lap — a unicorn of a listing in the exact location we wanted, with everything we didn’t think we could have at the time. The catch was that it was 25% over our budget…….

Shop my Faves :)

So why has no one told me about the secret(?) gem that IS Vuori?!?! On the outside, the store looks kind of lackluster and boring. But on the inside, specifically underneath the clothes..like your body, your skin… UNDERNEATH the clothes (IYKYK)… it is a magical heavenly place!!! The day before I left for my most recent trip to California I was complaining to my client that I had no idea what to wear in another American city lol. Hear me out — I wear athletic clothes all day long, barely go anywhere or do anything that involves wearing casual clothes, and shop mostly for vacations lol. In my rant to her, she interrupted me and told me she had found the most comfortable and flattering black dress at Vuori that I needed to get for this trip. With an hour of spare time that day (you know how it is right before a trip) I hustled my butt into Vuori.

Once I got my hands on the dress, it was into the dressing room I went, along with 13 more items, ha. I put on the dress, walked outside of my room, and modeled my dress in the mirror, where I found three other girls also trying clothes on. One of them gasped when she saw THE DRESS on me and proceeded to request her size in it. Within 5 minutes, all three women in the dressing room were standing outside modeling the dress in the communal mirror. We all went home with it!

THE DRESS:

The other items I bought and LOVED:

  1. The Performance Jogger - a staple comfy jogger that you never knew you needed.

  2. Feather Baby Tee- such a great fitting tee, not too tight and not too loose!

  3. Energy Tee- this is the ultimate buttery relaxed white tee! Looks so good with jeans, leggings, and joggers!

  4. All the Feels Crew Tank - bought that baby in white and black. I’ve worn them both 3 times in one week (finally in the wash oops lol) Such a flattering cut and fabric, and so buttery soft!
